Intended purpose of use: intended to puncture a vein to collect blood and/of for transient (<24 hours) administration of intravenous fluids.
Product description: Scalp vein set, also known as scalp vein needle of butterfly needle.
Sterile scalp vein needle to be introduced into a peripheral vein for infusing fluids and administering IV drugs. For short duration use, most commonly used for adults.
Components: needle with protecting cap, Butterfly wings, tube including Luer connector with cap ( all parts fit together to form a unit).

Needle:
- Material: stainless steel.

- mounted on a green base with two flexible fins that are used for anchoring and attaching the needle.

Tube:

Instructions for use:
Sterile scalp vein needle to be introduced into a peripheral vein for infusing fluids and administering IV drugs.
Scalp vein needle are for short duration use, for longer duration use, it is preferable to use IV Cannula, which causes less irritation to the veins.
The needle should be held in the correct position by suitable dressing, allowing the observation of the site of insertion, and providing efficient barrier against infection.
The selected sizes are the most commonly used:
- 21G (0.80 x 20mm) green, for adults.
- 25G (0.50 x 20mm) orange, for children.

Conditions for stock:
Avoid storage at extreme temperatures and humidity levels. Check the integrity of each unit before use. Single use.

Safety process:
The scalp vein needle is for single use only. Rules of asepsis must be followed when inserting scalp vein needle.

Protection of users:
To prevent stick injuries, wear gloves. NEVER recap the needle after use and dispose of the needle into a puncture proof safety container.
Collect and destroy puncture proof containers either by incinerating them in controlled surroundings of dispose of them in a safe burial pit in compliance with national laws and regulation on health care waste management.
